Farewell, Lyle ...

Picture
VALE  Lyle Davis. 6 April 2021.

It was the Autumn of 1989 when Lyle, Dorothy and Gordon Smith were sitting in the lounge room of the Davis’s home, looking out over the garden with its profusion of Autumn colour, that the idea of a local Garden Club was conceived!
They had been very active with the Annual Autumn Garden Festival for years beforehand, opening up their gardens, including Lyle and Dorothy’s heritage property “Trevlyn” in Parkes Street Wentworth Falls, to the public, to raise funds for the Katoomba Hospital. Lyle, along with wife Dorothy wanted to share their love of gardening with like-minded people, and so, what we enjoy today, here at our club, can be attributed to them.

Lyle was active in the early days as a member of the Committee, organised tours and functions, drove the bus and enjoyed sharing their garden many times with members of our club.

Lyle was generous with his knowledge of plants, and was known to share plants from his garden with others. Kind, warm and friendly were just a few of his attributes and he endeared himself to everyone.

We shall miss him sitting in the front row of our meetings, but will enjoy the legacy that he has left with us.
